1. Disney World

Now through to mid-February is generally accepted to be the best time to visit Disney World if you're looking for smaller crowds. The weather will be cool but, hey, at least it's still warmer than here.

2. Cruises

January to March is what's known as "wave season," and it's when most cruise lines offer up significant deals, including free upgrades, reduced fares and even free flights. Cruisecritic.com has a roundup of the best.

3. Camping

Parks Canada is now accepting campsite and roofed-accommodation reservations for stays between April, 2018, and March, 2019. For Ontario parks, you can book campsites starting five months out, so if you want to visit in June, best to get on it.

4. Reykjavik

If you've been waiting to jump on the Iceland bandwagon, now is a good time – with round-trip flights on Wow Air available for as little as $260 into June. Days are short in the winter but it is prime time for the Northern Lights. And while it's chilly, much of Canada is even colder.

5. London

And speaking of cheap flights, it's easy to snag round-trip airfare to London this winter for around $500 on various airlines. So once you're done binge-watching Season 2 of The Crown, why not check out some of the real-life filming locations?
