As ubiquitous as multihyphenates have become, Lilly Singh has continuously breathed new life into what it means to be a boss (or shall we say bawse) in 2018. The Scarborough-born vlogger launched her YouTube channel, Superwoman, back in 2010, as a place to share comedic yet inspiring videos, and has amassed more than 12 million subscribers. Last year, she added bestselling author to the list with her book, How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life.

Singh will continue in this vein this fall, through several charity missions in connection with her role as Unicef Global Goodwill Ambassador and the launch of her latest project, Unicorn Island Productions, a production company producing inspirational and informative content for film, television and online. “My love and passion for storytelling [inspires me], especially because I can create stories for underserved people, people of colour and women all over the world,” Singh says. “I recognize my job allows me to create art and be imaginative and would love to exercise those values every chance I can get. I never take it for granted.”

Of her travel habits, Singh says: “I always spend way too long packing and then realize I overpacked. When I go to the airport, I immediately buy snacks, because they are for sure going to mess up my vegetarian meal on the plane. Then I proceed to fall asleep before we take off!” Here, she shares a few favourite things she takes with her.
