wine review

From the Campania region surrounding Naples, this is made from aglianico, arguably southern Italy’s most regal red variety. Full-bodied and bone-dry, it’s firm and earthy, with a gently chalky texture. The flavours suggest tangy plum, juicy cherry, tobacco, underbrush and charred wood. It’s all set against a pleasantly invigorating, bitter backbone. Perfect for charcuterie, game meats or herb-crusted steak on the grill. Also worth cellaring for an additional six to eight years. Available in Ontario at the price below, various prices in Alberta.
