deals of the week

Following a record year for new vehicle sales in 2017, automakers continued to post solid performances through the first eight months of 2018, moving just over 1.4 million units. So far, the auto industry seems to be resistant to the bear effects of rising interest rates and trade uncertainty.

Nearly 980,000 light trucks (which include pickup trucks and SUVs) have rolled off dealership lots so far in 2018, up 3.2 per cent from just under 950,000 for the same period last year. This is despite a 5.6 per cent fall in pickup truck sales year-over-year, indicating that SUVs are now exclusively responsible for any gains made in the light truck segment and, by extension, across the overall new-vehicle market.

Nevertheless, the Ford F-series remained by far the top-selling vehicle line in Canada, moving over 100,000 units. The Honda Civic also persisted as Canada’s bestselling passenger car, with sales of over 50,000 units, down only 1.7 per cent year-over-year, as compared to a 7 per cent shrinkage in the overall passenger car segment.

We’ve featured some of our favourite offers this week on some of Canada’s bestselling vehicles. If you don’t find an offer that suits you, be sure to check out the new Globe Drive Build and Price Tool to see the latest incentives and discounts on any new car, truck or SUV.
