A woman in her 20s has been taken to hospital after a piece of concrete apparently fell on her head at Toronto’s Union Station.
Paramedics say the call came in around 5:20 p.m. local time, and the woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
A spokesman for the provincial transit agency Metrolinx says initial reports indicate that the piece of concrete fell from the ceiling onto the woman’s head.
Nitish Bissonauth says the agency and the city have sent engineers to the site to investigate, and part of the busy transit hub has been closed “out of an abundance of caution.”
The website for Union Station says roughly 300,000 travellers pass through every day.
The station opened in 1927, was designated a national historic site in 1975 and has been undergoing a massive renovation project for close to a decade.
