A violent weekend in Toronto claimed the lives of three people in one shooting incident and two separate stabbings.

The homicide unit is investigating a fatal shooting that took place early Sunday morning in the downtown core.

Police spokeswoman Katrina Arrogante says officers responding to reports of a shooting at an apartment building found a man with an upper-body wound in a fourth-floor common area.

She says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Dan Hoffmeyer of 51 Division says the victim was shot in the head.

He says police are currently guarding a vehicle at the scene.

Police say they’re looking for a suspect, described only as a white male who was wearing a black jacket, pants and baseball cap.

Earlier, police said one man has died and another is being treated for life-threatening injuries after a double stabbing Saturday night in southwest Toronto.

Ms. Arrogante says officers responding to a call just after 9:30 p.m. found two men suffering from numerous stab wounds near the Sherway Gardens shopping mall in Etobicoke.

She says one of the men was pronounced dead in hospital and the other was undergoing surgery.

No suspect information was immediately released.

In the third incident, police say a man is facing charges after a stabbing left an 84-year-old woman dead and sent another woman to hospital on Saturday evening.

They say the 31-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder following the incident.

Police say officers found two women suffering from serious stab wounds shortly after 6:30 p.m.

They say one woman was taken to hospital and is in stable condition, while the other woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Elena Marcucci of Toronto.
